Reversing the positive/negative relationship between mold and object, the “negative series” captures the unexpected shape of negative spaces.
Inspired by the process of mold-making which produces unexpected negative-shaped pieces, the negative series captures this phenomenon in the final object. Each piece is slip-cast in porcelain all at once using a highly customizable mold. There is no positive model to be reproduced and the mold is configured randomly each time, yielding a unique casting whose shape is unknown until the point that it is removed from the mold. Flaws, cracks and seams are evidence of the mold's structure and show how the object was made.
