The negative series is about capturing negative spaces in cast porcelain. Each instance of the negative series contains all the information about how it is built. You can see the split lines, sense the flowing clay, recognize fractures and breaks, and understand the rules of how the piece is formed. Every piece, though different, essentially comes from the same mold. The mold is extremely simple, a series of plaster blocks, but gives rise to an infinite number of complex forms. Each instance of the design embodies the set of rules for the mold, and hints at all the other forms that the design is not. It is about the imagining of possibilities.
